报告摘要
Summary of Influenza Update N° 454 (18 September 2023)
-
Key Recommendations: Countries are advised to monitor the co-circulation of influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses through integrated surveillance and report data to platforms like FluNet. Clinicians should consider influenza in differential diagnoses, especially for high-risk groups, and follow national and WHO guidelines for testing and treatment.
-
Global Influenza Activity: Influenza detections remained low across most regions during the reporting period up to 3 September 2023.
-
Regional Influenza Activity:
- Oceania: Influenza activity decreased, with influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 and B viruses predominant. SARI activity increased moderately.
- Africa and South/East Asia: Most regions reported low activity, but some increases in specific areas like Bangladesh and Nepal.
- Americas: In temperate zones (e.g., USA, Europe), activity was near or below seasonal baselines; in tropical zones, activity was low with SARS-CoV-2 co-circulating.
- Asia (Tropical): Elevated activity noted in Bangladesh and Bhutan, but generally low in other tropical Asian countries.
-
SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance: Global SARS-CoV-2 positivity increased slightly from sentinel surveillance. Activity was highest in some areas of the Americas and stable in Europe. Non-sentinel surveillance showed low positivity.
-
Laboratory Data: From September 2023 data, WHO GISRS laboratories tested over 252,496 specimens, with 5934 influenza positives (predominantly A(H3N2) and A(H1N1)pdm09). All B-type viruses were B/Victoria lineage.
