The UNRWA Lebanon Global School Health Survey (GSHS) of 2010 was a school-based survey conducted among students in grades 7th, 8th, and 9th. It aimed to assess various health-related behaviors and factors, including dietary behaviors, drug use, hygiene, mental health, physical activity, protective factors, tobacco use, and violence and unintentional injury. The survey used a two-stage cluster sampling design to ensure the data was representative of the entire student population in the specified grades.

Drug Use
- Marijuana use: 3.5% (2.0-6.2%) of students had used it one or more times during their life.
- Boys had a significantly higher rate of marijuana use compared to girls (7.3% vs. 0.6%).
Hygiene
- Teeth cleaning/brushing: 18.1% (15.2-21.4%) of students brushed their teeth less than once per day.
- Handwashing after using the toilet/latrine: 4.3% (3.1-6.0%) of students never or rarely washed their hands.
Mental Health
- Suicidal thoughts: 14.9% (12.7-17.4%) of students had seriously considered attempting suicide in the past 12 months.
- Suicide attempts: 15.4% (13.2-17.8%) of students had attempted suicide one or more times in the past 12 months.
- No close friends: 6.0% (4.9-7.3%) of students had no close friends.
Physical Activity
- Daily physical activity: 17.3% (13.9-21.3%) of students were physically active for at least 60 minutes on five or more days.
- Physical education attendance: 34.6% (30.0-39.4%) of students attended PE class on three or more days per week.
- Sitting activities: 27.0% (23.7-30.6%) of students spent three or more hours per day on sitting activities.
Protective Factors
- Unexcused absence: 24.7% (22.5-27.0%) of students missed classes or school without permission.
- Parental understanding: 46.5% (41.7-51.3%) of students felt their parents or guardians understood their problems and worries.
- Parental awareness of free time: 43.8% (40.3-47.4%) of students felt their parents or guardians knew what they were doing with their free time.
Tobacco Use
- Cigarette smoking: 10.2% (7.0-14.7%) of students smoked one or more days during the past 30 days.
- Early initiation: Among students who ever smoked, 86.2% (79.1-91.1%) first tried a cigarette before age 14.
- Exposure to smoking: 63.6% (58.7-68.3%) of students were exposed to smoking in their presence during the past 7 days.
Violence and Unintentional Injury
- Physical fights: 31.6% (24.2-40.0%) of students were involved in physical fights during the past 12 months.
- Serious injuries: 23.7% (19.7-28.2%) of students experienced serious injuries one or more times in the past 12 months.
- Bullying: 38.4% (32.8-44.3%) of students were bullied one or more days during the past 30 days.
- Boys were more likely to be involved in physical fights and serious injuries compared to girls.
