In the second quarter of 2022, the WHO Contingency Fund for Emergencies (CFE) played a key role in supporting rapid health emergency responses globally, providing up to US$37.3 million to address 12 crises across 19 countries and three regions. These involved emergencies such as the Horn of Africa and Sahel crises, cyclone Gombe in Mozambique, conflict in West Darfur, cholera in Pakistan, Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and an early monkeypox outbreak with advance funding granted.

Key events included responses to the worsening Sahel and Horn of Africa situations, where factors like armed conflict, food insecurity, and climate change exacerbated health risks, with funds allocated for life-saving services and outbreak preparedness. In Iraq, a surge in Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever cases led to $500,000 released for coordination and training.

New contributions totaled approximately US$10 million from countries such as Canada ($1.5M), Germany ($8M), Kuwait ($0.5M), and others, highlighting collaborative efforts to bolster CFE's financial sustainability.
