Survey Overview: The Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) is a standardized tool for monitoring youth tobacco use in countries, helping fulfill WHO FCTC obligations; conducted in 2013 in Mozambique by the National Commission for UNESCO and Ministry of Health with a 74.9% response rate among 5,599 students aged 13–15.

Key Findings on Tobacco Use:
- Overall tobacco use: 9.1% of students used any tobacco products, including smoking (2.3% for cigarettes) and smokeless tobacco (4.3%).
- Gender differences: Boys had higher rates in cigarette smoking (2.3%) and overall tobacco use (9.3%) compared to girls (8.2% respectively).

Secondhand Smoke Exposure:
- 19.1% of students were exposed to tobacco smoke at home; 37.4% in enclosed public places; 38.7% in outdoor public places.

Media Exposure:
- 58.3% noticed anti-tobacco messages, while over 30% saw tobacco advertisements or promotions at points of sale; 39.2% observed tobacco use in media content.

Knowledge and Attitudes:
- 70.8% of students favored banning smoking in enclosed public places; 30.3% definitely believed tobacco smoking is harmful.
- Low susceptibility to future tobacco use: 6.6%–6.3% for boys and girls respectively rated as susceptible.

Methodology Notes: The survey used a nationally representative sample with anonymous self-administered questionnaires, weighted to ensure data accuracy for the 13–15-year-old student population.
