Summary of China Unicom 5G Terminal White Paper V5
This document outlines the requirements for China Unicom's 5G terminal products, aimed at guiding 5G terminal development and promoting network-terminal synergy. Terminal Classification
- 5G terminals must support both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) network architectures, along with NR Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) modes.
- Terminals are categorized as either "Voice Data" (e.g., smartphones supporting voice and data services) or "Data" (e.g., MiFi, data cards).
- By SIM card support: Single-card or dual-card; dual-card terminals optionally support dual 5G or single 5G functionality.
Multi-Mode and Frequency Requirements
- NR frequency bands specified include n78 (3.3-3.8 GHz), n1 (824-960 MHz), n41 (2.4-2.6 GHz), n3 (1710-1880 MHz), and others (e.g., n5, n8, n28).
- SA mode requires Option2 architecture; NSA mode requires Option3x.
- Minimum protocol support: SA/NSA modes use 3GPP R15 and later; R16 support is recommended for advanced features.
- Bandwidth and power levels: Detailed for FR1 and FR2 bands (sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave). For example, FR1 terminals must meet specific power outputs (e.g., +26dBm for TDD NR in n78).
- EN-DC (Enhanced Node B Dual Connectivity) requires specific frequency combinations, such as n78 with LTE bands.
Functional Requirements
- Core network interactions: SA mode mandates 5G Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA); NSA mode uses EPS and LTE-based authentication.
- Services: Supports VoLTE/VoNR for voice calls, video streaming, SMS, emergency services (e.g., 110, 119), andIMS-based applications. 5G message support is required for RCS standards.
- Networking features: Includes network slicing for tailored services (e.g., based on DNN); seamless handovers between SA/NSA, LTE, and NR; and interoperability with international roaming.
- Security: Requires handling specific network reason values for registration rejections (e.g., #3 to #73).
Performance Requirements
- Peak rates: SA NSA modes target up to 1.5Gbps downlink for n78; configurations include carrier aggregation (CA) for higher throughput.
- Energy efficiency: Supports C-DRX, BWP switching, and R16 features for reduced power consumption. Refer to tests in the white paper for metrics.
- Heating and endurance: Maximum temperatures specified for standby and active usage (e.g., 40-45°C).
- Latency: Aim for user plane <4ms and control plane <10ms for SA/NSA operations.
User Interface and Card Compatibility
- UI requirements: SA mode displays “5G” in status bar; must default-enable SA and disable separate 5G toggles.
- Card compatibility: Supports dual-SIM/ eSIM with roaming, allowing backward compatibility with 2G/3G/4G networks.
Additional Features
- Includes support for WiFi (802.11 b/g/n/ac, with AX recommended), ANR (and automatic network selection), edge computing, and localization (e.g., GPS, cellular, WLAN).
- Dual-card terminals must support concurrent services for voice, data, and SMS; VoNR and CSFB features vary by mode.
