Analysis Summary:

UNDP has been promoting a comprehensive approach to integrating gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and responses into various sectoral development projects. Four pilot projects were implemented to test this approach in different regions (Lebanon, Iraq, Uganda, Bhutan). Key lessons emphasize the importance of:

• Buy-in and collaboration: Active involvement from all project partners, UNDP staff, and implementing partners, including specialized GBV expertise.
• Structural adjustments: Ensuring project frameworks and activities align with GBV prevention and minimize risks.

• Monitoring and evaluation: Rigorous and ethical M&E approaches to measure impacts and inform continuous improvement.

While integration is context-specific and faces challenges such as resource constraints and resistance at organizational levels, the pilots demonstrate the feasibility and value-added potential of integrating GBV work within sectoral programs. Four strategic pillars emerged as critical: advocacy, coordination, rigorous M&E, and transformative capacity-building. UNDP is encouraged to scale these approaches and strengthen human and financial resources to further advance GBV integration.
