报告摘要
Greece conducted the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in 2005 for students aged 13-15, focusing on tobacco use and its determinants. The survey used a two-stage cluster sampling method with a high overall response rate, yielding 5,204 participants. Key highlights include:
- Tobacco Use Prevalence: 32.1% of students had ever smoked cigarettes, with 16.2% currently using any tobacco product and 10.4% smoking cigarettes regularly. Among never-smokers, 23.3% initiated smoking before age ten, and 19.5% expected to start in the next year.
- Secondhand Smoke Exposure: 89.8% lived in homes where others smoked, and 94.1% were exposed outside home environments. Most students (84.8%) believed secondhand smoke is harmful, and 70.2% supported public smoking bans.
- Cessation and Quit Attempts: 37.6% of current smokers desired to quit, and 57.9% tried to stop in the past year, with 70.2% receiving help.
- Media and Advertising: Students saw more pro-tobacco than anti-smoking messages (e.g., 75.6% of pro-cigarette ads in newspapers vs. 57.1% anti-smoking messages on TV), and nearly 20% were offered free cigarettes.
- School Education: Only 64.7% learned about smoking dangers in class, while 43.5% discussed reasons for youth smoking.
- Access factors, such as parents or friends smoking, contributed to higher initiation rates and exposure.
This survey underscores high tobacco use and related risks among youth in Greece, advocating for comprehensive control programs.
