Key Highlights for the current issue, dated 27 April 2023:

World Hand Hygiene Day 2023 Focus: Celebrated on 5 May 2023, the theme is "Accelerate action together". Resources are available in six languages, including a new campaign guide to support participation. Suggested activities include virtual forums, key message dissemination, and a WHO-led webinar on 5 May to emphasize hand hygiene importance and roles of civil society in IPC.
Marburg Outbreak Response in Equatorial Guinea: The outbreak was declared in February 2023, with 17 confirmed cases and 11 deaths. WHO supports IPC measures through collaboration with CDC, training health workers, and capacity building in districts. Efforts include IPC scorecard assessments and training for burial teams to enhance safety.
WHO Ukraine Initiatives: In response to war-related healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), WHO has conducted IPC training using clinical care bundles. Between August 2022 and April 2023, over 600 healthcare providers received training in 21 sessions, aimed at reducing HAIs like ventilator-associated pneumonia and surgical site infections.
