This paper examines the impact of massive Venezuelan migration on children's educational outcomes in Colombia. Around 2,500,000 Venezuelans have settled in Colombia, making up 5% of its population. The study finds that migration significantly increased school enrollment, particularly in public schools, for both foreign and native children. However, it also led to declining promotion rates and higher dropout rates across all school types. The negative spillovers were driven by differential school capacity and deteriorated educational inputs like teacher availability and class sizes. Foreign students showed stronger academic performance, possibly due to increased effort. The findings underscore the need for policies to mitigate negative effects while supporting schools to absorb increased enrollment without sacrificing learning quality. The study highlights heterogeneity across school types, grades, and locations, providing nuanced insights for policymakers.
