As of 1 January 2023, the past week (26 Dec 2022 - 1 Jan 2023) reported a 22% decrease in new cases (3 million) and a 12% decrease in deaths (10,000) compared to the previous week.

Over the last 28 days (6 Dec 2022 - 1 Jan 2023), cases and deaths (14.5 million, +25% & 21%) increased compared to the prior 28 days.

Regional hotspots included Japan, Republic of Korea, US, China, Brazil for new cases.
