The audiovisual industry in Mexico contributed MXN$138.7 billion to GDP, supported over 77,000 jobs directly, and generated MXN$19.2 billion in tax revenues in 2022. The total economic impact, including indirect and induced effects, reached MXN$228.8 billion and 200,000 jobs.
The industry's productivity was nearly three times the national average. The FTA TV segment was the largest contributor, generating MXN$57.6 billion in GDP and employing 23,000 people directly. Pay TV added MXN$27.2 billion to GDP. Film exhibition directly contributed MXN$18.2 billion to GDP and employed 27,000 people. VOD generated MXN$25.8 billion in direct GDP and employed 4,300 people.
Mexico attracted MXN$463 million in foreign direct investment in 2022. The industry supported regional development across states like Jalisco, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. Film-induced tourism increased by 9% post-release of major films.
Film festivals like Guanajuato International and Morelia International boosted tourism and attracted international filmmakers. The industry employed women in film exhibition (47% of workers).
Projections indicate growth through 2024 with new film clusters in Guadalajara and expanded production hubs, further boosting Mexico's creative economy.
