Cumulative (Up to Week 14, 2013):
- Total notified suspected cases: 5,768, Deaths: 579 (CFR: 10.0%)
- Cumulative cases significantly lower (5,768 vs 13,129) and deaths marginally lower (579 vs 128) than 2012.
- Enhanced surveillance coverage (62.0% of possible districts reported).
Alert Threshold:
- District of Abyei, South Sudan recorded an Attack Rate (AR) of 7.6%.

Alert Phase Districts: Burkina Faso, Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, South Sudan (?), Togo (?)
- Burkina Faso (604 cases), Benin (323 cases), Mali (137 cases), Niger (111 cases) had the highest case counts.
- Some districts showed a decrease compared to the 2012 period.
Epidemic Phase Districts: Burkina Faso (?), Côte d'Ivoire, Central African Republic, Chad
- Chad reported 4 suspected cases with 3 deaths (75% of cases in epidemic districts).
Vaccination Status: Partial or full vaccination campaigns ongoing or completed in Mali and Chad (MenAfriVac).

CSF Samples: 1,046 collected from 5,768 total suspected cases (18.1% collection rate).
Lab-Confirmed Cases: 9 cases of NmC identified (Nigeria: 7 cases, DR Congo: 2 cases), NmC being the most frequent confirmed pathogen (87 cases overall). Other confirmed pathogens included Streptococcus pneumoniae (30 cases), E. coli/Hib (14 cases).

The overall epidemic situation remained calm at the start of week 14, contrasting with the high activity seen later in 2012.
Attack rates indicate activity mainly within the meningitis belt countries.
Neisseria meningitidis C (NmC) remains the predominant pathogen identified so far.
