During the COVID-19 pandemic, digital health has become critical for healthcare delivery in Lesotho, yet the country remains at the Nascent/Emerging stage (score of 1.5/5) of digital health maturity, according to a recent World Bank assessment. While some foundational investments exist (e.g., the eRegister system), weaknesses in digital infrastructure, interoperability, and human resources severely limit progress.

Digital Health Maturity:

• Architecture and Data has the highest maturity (2.0/5), but Applications and Analytics are underdeveloped.
• Lesotho has extensive mobile coverage and Internet use but lacks robust cybersecurity measures and cloud infrastructure.

Healthcare Challenges Addressed by Digital Health:

• Monitoring of community-level data remains poor, with village health workers lacking access to digital systems.
• Manual processes (e.g., paper-based records) hinder data utilization, emergency preparedness, and patient care continuity.

Strategic Recommendations
