报告摘要
Hypertension is a major public health concern in Jordan, with a prevalence rate of 22.1% among the adult population aged 18-69 years in 2019, corresponding to approximately 1.3 million individuals out of an estimated population. Of these, about 61.5% were aware of their condition (diagnosed), and only 30.8% achieved control through treatment and medication use.
The burden is uneven across age and sex groups, with higher rates observed in older age brackets (e.g., ages 45-69), and males slightly had higher prevalence than females. Trends indicate a gradual decrease in uncontrolled hypertension among adults aged 18 and above.
National efforts include policies to reduce salt consumption and the availability of essential hypertension medicines in primary health care facilities, while the national target set a goal of reducing hypertension prevalence from 25.6% in 2017 to 23% by 2022. WHO recommendations emphasize addressing modifiable risk factors like salt intake and physical inactivity, along with improved diagnosis and treatment protocols.
Awareness, treatment, and control data show that only about half of those with hypertension were aware of their condition, and control rates remain low, indicating a need for stronger prevention and management strategies.
