IEO Progress Report Summary (April 18, 2022)
Overview
Since the 2021 Annual Meetings, the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has made significant progress on its ongoing evaluation activities. Three evaluations are currently in progress, and two Management Implementation Plans (MIPs) have been approved by the Board to address recommendations from prior evaluations. To commemorate its 20th anniversary, the IEO organized a virtual conference in November 2021, which aimed to reflect on its past work and consider future challenges. The IEO has also contributed to the IMF's ongoing work on institutional integrity, using insights from past evaluations and planning additional work on this topic as it selects new evaluation themes later in 2022.
IEO Work Program
- The IEO has submitted its evaluation of IMF Engagement with Small Developing States to the Executive Board, with a discussion scheduled for May 6.
- Two other evaluations are well advanced:
- Evaluation of IMF Capacity Development Work (to be completed by September 2022)
- Evaluation of the Fund's Emergency Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic (to be completed in early 2023)
- On March 24, the IEO provided a mid-point update on the pandemic response evaluation, sharing initial findings and tentative lessons.
