报告摘要
Summary of the WHO COVID-19 Weekly Epidemiological Update (Edition 129, 8 February 2023)
Global Overview
-
New Cases and Deaths (5 February 2023):
Globally, nearly 10.5 million new cases and over 90,000 deaths were reported in the last 28 days (9 January to 5 February 2023), representing an 89% and 8% decrease, respectively, compared to the previous 28 days.- Total confirmed cases: Over 754 million
- Total confirmed deaths: Over 6.8 million
-
Underestimation of Trends:
Reported case numbers may underestimate the true number of infections and reinfections due to reduced testing and reporting delays.- Data should be interpreted with caution, as it is subject to continuous updates and adjustments.
-
28-Day Interval Analysis:
WHO uses a 28-day interval to smooth out weekly fluctuations and provide a clearer picture of the pandemic's acceleration or deceleration.- Weekly data can be accessed on the WHO dashboard.
SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Concern and Omicron Subvariants
-
Global Sequence Data (10 January to 6 February 2023):
- 70,276 sequences were shared with GISAID, with 70,018 being the Omicron variant (99.6% of all sequences).
- Dominant Variants:
- BA.5 and its lineages remain dominant but have declined in relative prevalence.
- BA.2 and its lineages remain stable.
- Pooled recombinant variants, mainly XBB.1.5, increased in prevalence to 24.6% from 8.8%.
- Other Variants:
- BA.1, BA.3, and BA.4 and their lineages account for less than 1% prevalence.
-
Variants Under Monitoring:
- BF.7, BQ.1*, BA.2.75*, and XBB* are currently under close monitoring due to potential transmission advantages and fitness-related mutations.
- WHO has published two rapid risk assessments on XBB.1.5.

- PHSM monitoring will no longer be updated on the dashboard due to reduced changes in public health measures.
- Variant classifications are regularly revised based on epidemiological data and public health risk.
- WHO maintains a dedicated website for tracking SARS-CoV-2 variants and their implications.
- Updates on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are excluded due to lack of reported cases.
