Executive Summary

This report analyzes 73 UNDP-supported projects mapped from five regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Arab States, Latin America/Careibbean, and Europe/CIS. The projects focus on six key areas: women and elections, women and parliament, women in politics and the media, women and civic engagement, women's participation in public administration, and women's participation in peacebuilding and peace processes. Africa had the highest number of projects (38.7%), followed by Asia-Pacific (26.7%). Latin America/Carebarian, Europe/CIS, and Arab States showed lower but still significant participation.

Strategic priorities across projects included promoting Temporary Special Measures (TSMs) to increase women's representation, changing harmful gender norms (including engaging men), and ending violence against women in politics, both online and offline. The projects address challenges such as low women's participation in elections, discriminatory social norms, and security risks for female candidates and leaders.

A notable focus was on crisis and conflict-affected countries, with 29 countries included in the mapping, highlighting UNDP's commitment to inclusive governance and peacebuilding in fragile states. Violence against women in politics and restrictive electoral mechanisms remain significant barriers addressed through capacity building, legal reforms, and advocacy. The projects aim to increase women's representation in leadership roles, promote gender-responsive governance, and ensure their full participation in decision-making processes at all levels.
