Singapore Cervical Cancer Profile Summary
Morbidity and Mortality
- Cervical cancer incidence in 2020 was crude rate 6.9 per 100,000 women and age-standardized rate 0.7%. Cumulative risk between ages 0-74 was low, with deaths in 2019 peaking at 11,500 among women. Mortality-to-incidence ratio in 2020 was 0.56. A population-based cancer registry exists (2021).
Primary Prevention
- An HPV vaccination program was introduced in 2010, targeting girls aged 9-14 years, with low coverage (less than 0.03% of doses). Primary risk factors include tobacco use prevalence of 0.7% among women aged 15+, and other factors lacking full data. HIV incidence data availability was inconsistent.
Secondary Prevention and Screening
- A national screening program exists for cervical cancer, introduced in 2021, using the primary test method. Target age range is not fully specified, but 67% of women aged 30-49 were screened in the past 5 years, and 69% have ever been screened since 2021. A clear referral system from primary to tertiary care exists.
Treatment and Supportive Care
- National guidelines on cervical cancer management are available (2021), supported by various radiation and surgical facilities, including equipment for radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Cancer centers and departments are present at tertiary level for specialized care, including palliative care, with some facilities based on 2019/2021 data.
WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Strategy
- Singapore is referenced in the WHO Cervical Cancer Country Profiles for 2021, aiming to meet elimination targets by 2030, based on current preventive and treatment efforts, though specific progress markers like HPV or cervical cancer reduction are highlighted in chart formats.
