报告摘要
Mexico - Hermosillo GYTS Summary
Sample Design
The survey employed a two-stage cluster sampling method, selecting schools disproportionate to enrollment and then classes randomly, with all eligible students participating. The response rates were 100.0% for schools, 100.0% for classes, 89.8% for students, and the overall rate was 89.8%. A total of 1,878 students aged 13-15 took part, conducted in 2005.
Key Findings
-
Tobacco Use Prevalence: 47.1% of students had ever smoked cigarettes (54.2% boys, 40.6% girls); 22.5% currently use any tobacco product (29.6% boys, 15.9% girls); 19.1% currently smoke cigarettes (25.3% boys, 13.4% girls); and 7.3% use other tobacco products (10.2% boys, 4.5% girls).
-
Secondhand Smoke (SHS) Exposure: Over 21.7% of students live in homes with others smoking, and 50.5% are exposed to smoke elsewhere; most students recognize harms of SHS and support banning smoking in public places.
-
Determinants of Tobacco Use: High exposure to SHS, availability of tobacco products, peer influence (many have friends who smoke), and media advertising (85.3% seen anti-smoking messages, 87.1% seen pro-cigarette billboard ads) are key factors; access is common, with 70.0% buying cigarettes and some having branded items.
-
Attitudes and Cessation: Knowledge shows most students view smoking negatively, with high support for bans; over half of current smokers (52.6%) want to quit, have tried stopping, and received help. School-based education was implemented in most cases.
