UN Task Force on NCDs and Mental Health

• Establishment: Founded in 2013 by the UN Secretary-General to unite UN efforts in combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and improving mental health.

• Purpose: Provide political and technical support to countries to intensify actions on NCDs and mental health, present annual reports to the UN Economic and Social Council.

• Necessity: NCDs are the primary cause of death and suffering globally, affecting nearly a billion people; they are often preventable, with significant socioeconomic impacts requiring cross-sectoral actions.

• Activities: Advocate for government and societal involvement, offer context-specific technical assistance, mobilize financial and political resources, enhance coordination mechanisms, develop investment cases, catalyze policy changes, and promote sustainable solutions.

• Partnerships: Collaborate through initiatives like Health4Life Fund, NCD2030, SAFER, and programs targeting cancer, tobacco control, digital health, and human rights to strengthen multi-stakeholder engagements.

• Impact: Have supported actions in over 50 countries over the past decade, focusing on South-South cooperation and equitable solutions.
