Tobacco Use
- Overall, 12.4% of students aged 13-15 used any tobacco products, with higher rates among boys (13.1%) than girls (9.8%).
- Current cigarette smoking: 7.6% of students (9.0% boys, 6.1% girls).
- Current use of other tobacco products: 5.4% of students (7.3% boys, 3.3% girls).
- Ever cigarette smoking: 23.8% of students.
Electronic Cigarettes
- 3.9% of students used electronic cigarettes in the past 30 days (5.7% boys, 1.9% girls).
Cessation
- 63.8% of current smokers tried to stop smoking in the past 12 months.
- 54.5% of current smokers wanted to quit smoking now.
- 62.0% of current smokers received help or advice from a professional.
Secondhand Smoke
- 46.2% of students were exposed to tobacco smoke at home (43.0% boys, 49.7% girls).
- 49.8% of students were exposed to tobacco smoke in enclosed public places.
- 73.9% of current cigarette smokers bought cigarettes from stores or vendors.
Media
- 42.6% of students noticed tobacco advertisements or promotions when buying tobacco.
- 57.9% of students were exposed to anti-tobacco messages in the media.
Knowledge & Attitudes
- 68.5% of students definitely thought tobacco smoking was harmful to others.
- 83.6% of students favored prohibiting smoking in enclosed public places.
- 54.5% of current smokers wanted to quit smoking.
