报告摘要
Sri Lanka Hypertension Summary
Burden of Hypertension
In 2014, Sri Lanka's adult population had a hypertension prevalence rate of 26.2%, affecting approximately 1.4 million people out of a total population exceeding 20 million.
Awareness, Treatment, and Control
- Prevalence rate: 26.2% among adults.
- Awareness rate: About 41.6% of those with hypertension knew they had the condition.
- Treatment rate: Approximately 28.2% were under treatment for hypertension.
- Control rate: Only 11.1% had controlled blood pressure.
National Systems Response
In 2019, essential hypertension medicines, such as thiazide diuretics and ACE inhibitors, were reported as generally available in public primary health care facilities.
National Targets
The goal is a 25% reduction in raised blood pressure prevalence by 2025, with a baseline rate of 16.1% in 2008.
WHO Recommendations for Prevention and Control
- Reduce modifiable risk factors like excessive salt consumption, physical inactivity, and tobacco use.
- Improve identification, treatment, and medication access using WHO HEARTS technical packages.
- Monitor blood pressure control rates and population prevalence.
Trends
The prevalence of uncontrolled hypertension increased over time from 2000 to 2025, with lower control rates in older age groups.
Key Findings
Hypertension poses a significant public health challenge in Sri Lanka, with low control rates despite some system responses, highlighting the need for improved prevention and management strategies to meet national and global targets.
