- Burkina Faso: 2 districts reported epidemic (Pama and Karangasso-Vigue), 1 district reported alert (Lena)
- Niger: Tillaberi district reported high alert
- Chad: 5 districts reported epidemic (Melfi, Laokassy, Benoye, Kelo, Moundou), 2 districts reported alert (Bousso, Sarh)
II. Annual Synthesis (Weeks 1-8, 2011)
- Highest case notification from: Burkina Faso (1060 cases, 197 deaths)
- Cumulative cases: 3,812
- Cumulative deaths: 470
- Overall lethality rate: 12.3%
- Countries encouraged to update weekly data: Silent countries, including the Central African Republic
III. Pathogen Information
- Streptococcus pneumoniae (Spn) is the predominant pathogen across most countries
- Exception noted in Chad, where Non-Typable Haemophilus influenzae type B (NmA) is driving the epidemic and affecting multiple districts
