Ecuadorian-origin Hispanics in the U.S.: About 687,000 resided in 2013, up from 186,000 in 1990, representing a 203% growth and accounting for 1.3% of the U.S. Hispanic population. They are the 10th-largest Hispanic origin group and 61% foreign-born, with higher immigration rates than other Hispanics or the overall U.S. population. Language: 55% speak English proficiently, 87% speak Spanish at home. Age: Median age 32, lower than U.S. population (37) but higher than all Hispanics (28); immigrants have higher median age. Marital status: 51% of adults married, higher than Hispanics overall and similar to U.S. population; foreign-born have twice the marriage rate of U.S.-born. Fertility: Similar rates to Hispanics and overall U.S. for recent births. Geographic distribution: Primarily in the Northeast, with high concentration in New York. Education: 19% have a bachelor's degree or higher, higher than Hispanics (14%) but lower than U.S. population (30%); U.S.-born have higher rates than foreign-born. Income: Median earnings $24,000, higher than Hispanics ($21,900) but lower than U.S. ($30,000). Poverty: 19% in poverty, higher than U.S. overall (16%) but lower than Hispanics (25%). Health insurance: 31% uninsured, higher than Hispanics (29%) but similar to pre-ACA rates. Homeownership: 39% rate lower than Hispanics (45%) or U.S. (64%). The data, based on 2013 American Community Survey, highlight trends in demographics, economics, and social factors for this group.
