Summary of the Greater Bay Area Traveler Data Report
Core Content Overview
The Greater Bay Area (GBA) initiative is a significant economic development project involving Hong Kong, Macao, and nine Guangdong cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing. With an estimated GDP of $1.34 trillion and a population of 68 million, the GBA represents one of the world's largest urban clusters, surpassing the Tokyo Metropolitan Area in size. This initiative has created new opportunities for local advertisers to target GBA travelers effectively through data-driven insights.
The Vpon Big Data Group has released its first data report on GBA travelers, analyzing digital footprints, travel patterns, and audience profiles. The report provides three key perspectives:
- The State of Greater Bay Area: Overview of GBA travelers and their digital behavior.
- GBA Traveller – Where do they go?: Insights into travel destinations and patterns.
- GBA Traveller – Who are they?: Audience segmentation based on campaign interests and behavior.
The report is supported by Vpon’s proprietary data platforms (DSP, DMP, PMP) and strategic data partnerships, drawing from data collected between September 1st, 2018, and January 31st, 2019, covering 900 million unique mobile devices and 21 billion daily biddable inventory.
Key Travel Patterns and Digital Footprints
Transportation Infrastructure Impact

- Digital footprints of travelers have been tracked using Vpon’s TRATA DMP, which provides insights into mobile behavior of 900 million Asian tourists.
Travel Destination Trends

- Mainland China travelers are more active on weekdays, with a slight decrease in mobile activity on Wednesdays possibly due to public events like horse racing and museums.
