Tracked Variants: WHO is tracking XBB.1.5, XBB.1.16 (VOIs) and BA.2.75, CH.1.1, XBB, XBB.1.9.1, XBB.1.9.2, XBB.2.3 (VUMs).
Global Trend: XBB.1.5 prevalence declined (↓13.9% from week 20 to 24). XBB.1.16 prevalence increased (↑3.1%).
Regional Variations: Cases are driven by VOIs/VUMs in some countries, though morbidity/mortality is generally lower due to population immunity.

Against Omicron: VE against original BA.4/BA.5 is estimated from studies. Data against XBB/XBB.1.5 is limited but suggests possible reduced absolute and relative protection compared to earlier variants, with further waning potential partially explaining this. Bivalent boosters show potential for improved performance compared to monovalent vaccines in some studies.
Neutralization: Bivalent mRNA vaccines may offer improved neutralization against newer Omicron subvariants compared to monovalent vaccines.

Americas: Slight decrease in deaths (+17%), significant decrease in cases (-60%).
Africa: Slight decrease in deaths (-60%) but significant decrease in cases (-62%).
Eastern Mediterranean: Significant decrease in cases (-74%) and deaths (-58%).
Europe: Significant decrease in cases (-62%) and deaths (-64%).
South-East Asia: Significant decrease in cases (-69%) and deaths (-55%).
Western Pacific: Significant decrease in cases (-36%) but slight increase in deaths (+17%).
Highest Variability: The Americas and Europe showed significant decreases in both cases and deaths over the same period. High case numbers were still reported from Brazil, Australia, and others.

Global case/death reporting is incomplete due to underreporting/testing. Regional variations in trend continue.
