Brazil Introduces New Visas and Residency for CPLP Nationals

Effective October 2, 2023, Brazil's government will start issuing new visas and residence permits for nationals of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). This initiative aims to facilitate international talent and aligns with government focus areas.

Key details:

• Eligibility: Highly-qualified individuals, including technicians, teachers, businesspeople, cultural agents, and exchange-program students from CPLP member states.
• Visa Details: Temporary visa valid for one year, granted exclusively by Brazilian Embassies (e.g., in Luanda, Praia, Malabo, Maputo, São Tomé, Dili) and Consulates (e.g., in Lisbon, Faro, Porto).
• Residence Permit: Initial duration of two years for work purposes, renewable indefinitely in accordance with current legislation.
• Registration: Immigrants with a CPLP Residence Visa must register with the Federal Police within 90 days of arrival. Those already in Brazil can apply directly for a permit from Federal Police units.
