WHO 2021 Medical Devices Newsletter Summary

1. 2021 Publications: The World Health Organization released several key publications for medical devices and in vitro diagnostics, including "Generating Evidence for Artificial Intelligence Based Medical Devices," "WHO neonatal resuscitation manikin technical specifications," "WHO compendium of innovative health technologies for low-resource settings 2021," "Portable digital radiography system: technical specifications," "WHO list of priority medical devices for management of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes," and guidance on post-market surveillance. 2. COVID-19 Related Medical Equipment Training: WHO is actively developing training videos for COVID-19 relevant technologies, supported by clinical and biomedical engineers from various countries like Botswana, Benin, Canada, China, India, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, Uganda, and the USA. Available training videos focus on preparing equipment for use, correct maintenance, and preventative maintenance, including topics like oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, pulse oximeters, high flow nasal cannula, BPAP, and ICU ventilators. A full training tool will be available early in 2022. A webinar is scheduled with upcoming updates.

Nomenclature Mapping Updates: WHO has advancements in medical devices nomenclature, with a general information webinar on December 13, 2021, at 13:00-14:30 CEST and another information session for members states on December 16, 2021.
