报告摘要
Summary
The report identifies priority areas in the Arab region for implementing nature-based solutions to address biodiversity and climate change simultaneously. Seven hotspots are analyzed, each facing unique socioeconomic, ecological, and climate pressures. Nature-based interventions, tailored to local conditions, are recommended to achieve optimal climate and biodiversity synergies, including forest management, wetland conservation, agricultural optimization, and coastal protection.
Priority hotspots identified are the Atlas Mountains (Morocco, Algeria), the Nile Delta, the Iraq Mesopotamian floodplain/Zagros Mountains, the eastern Mediterranean mountains, the Jordan River Valley, and the southeastern Arabian Peninsula. Each area requires specific solutions based on its biomes, economic relevance, and social needs.
Key recommendations include localizing data for global methodologies, replicating successful interventions, enhancing coordination between national and local platforms, strengthening institutional capacity, effectively communicating climate change impacts, incorporating nature-based solutions into national climate and biodiversity strategies, and utilizing technology for assessment and planning.
