I. Epidemiological Situation Week 11 (10-16 March 2008):

• Total Cases: 1,189 across 10 countries.
• Key Countries:
  • Burkina Faso: 985 cases, 78 deaths (10.3% lethality). Highest case count, with 8 epidemic districts and 12 districts in alert.
  • Niger: 68 cases, 2 deaths (2.9% lethality). One district in epidemic.
  • Nigeria: 66 cases, 7 deaths (10.6% lethality). LGAs Fagge in alert and Dan-Musa surpassing epidemic threshold.
  • Benin: 23 cases, 4 deaths (17.4% lethality).
• Lethality Rates: Highest in Benin and lowest in Burkina Faso (7.9%). Burkina Faso curve in 2008 below 2007.

II. Yearly Synthesis (Weeks 1–11, 2008):

• Burkina Faso remains most affected country with over 5,000 cases in 2008.
• Cameroon and several Central African/other countries report no cases.
• Nigeria had 649 cases, up to 4 districts in epidemic.
• Seasonal pattern evident, with weeks 1–11 accounting for 67.7% of cumulative cases.

• Nessacoccus meningitidis (NmA) predominant pathogen (Dominant in weekly and yearly data).
