Patients for Patient Safety News July 2012 Summary

This edition introduces the 21st newsletter, featuring patient safety activities globally.

1. Workshops and Initiatives:

• Colombia: A workshop brought together 15 patients harmed by healthcare to educate them on patient safety and involve them in advocacy. Collaboration was established with health ministries and organizations.
• Mexico: Coordinated with the Ministry of Health during the International Week of Integration and Development. Keynote speakers emphasized patient safety, medication safety, and infection control. Patients expressed dedication to preventing adverse events.

2. International Networks & Events:

• Ghana: Patient safety champions launched the Patients for Patient Safety Advocacy Network (GHAPSANET) to address maternal and child mortality in the Volta region. Their Infection Control Campaign targets healthcare providers through education and behavior change communication.

• ShEvet (Israel): An Israeli organization promoting patient-physician partnerships for safer healthcare, coinciding with a memorial for Yves Chartier, an early patient safety advocate.
