Mobile Phone Market Analysis Summary

• Part 1: Overall Market
  July 2021 domestic shipments reached 28.7 million units, a year-over-year increase of 28.6%. New models released in the month totaled 26, down 38.1% y/y. Cumulative shipments from January to July 2021 were 202.8 million, up 15.6% y/y, with 239 new models launched, a decrease of 6.6% y/y compared to the same period in 2020.

• Part 2: 5G Mobile Phones
  July 5G shipments were 22.8 million, accounting for 79.6% of total shipments. Eleven 5G models were released, comprising 42.3% of all new models in the month. Year-to-date, 5G shipments totaled 150.6 million units, with 121 new 5G models, representing strong adoption.

• Part 3: Local vs. MNC Brands
  Local brands shipped 25.9 million units in July, making up 90.3% of the market and growing 24.9% y/y. They released 24 new models, down 36.8% y/y, accounting for 92.3% of monthly new model launches. YTD, local brands shipped 181.2 million units (+13.3% y/y) with 218 new models (-6.8% y/y). MNC brands accounted for just 9.7% of total shipments in July.

• Part 4: Smart Phone Development
  July smart phone shipments were 27.8 million, or 96.8% of total shipments, up 30.6% y/y. Twenty-one new smart phone models were launched, down 34.4% y/y, accounting for 80.8% of new models. Year-to-date, shipments for smart phones reached 198.7 million units (+16.8% y/y) with 196 new models (-1.0% y/y).
