Epidemiological Situation (December 2014 Week 49-52):
- In the last week of the pre-epidemic phase, only the Bourha district in Cameroon reached the alert threshold with an attack rate of 5.3.
- Overall, 662 suspected meningitis cases and 67 deaths were reported across 15 countries, with a case fatality rate of 10.1%. Data completeness was 92%.

Cumulative Situation (January - December 2014):
- A total of 21,641 suspected cases and 1,903 deaths were reported (case fatality rate: 8.8%).
- 22 districts exceeded the epidemic threshold during 2014, notably in Ethiopia (12 districts), Nigeria (6 districts), and Benin (2 districts).
- Compared to 2013, 2014 saw a slight increase in cases.

Laboratory Data:
- Only 21% of cases had laboratory samples taken.
- Laboratory-confirmed cases were dominated by Streptococcus pneumoniae (656) and Neisseria meningitidis W135 (286).

Comments:
- The epidemiological situation was relatively calm in most countries except Ethiopia and Nigeria.
- Cameroon is partially vaccinated with MenAfriVac, Burkina Faso and Gambia fully vaccinated.
