报告摘要
Summary
This case study analyzes the strategies of Youngone Corporation, a multinational enterprise (MNE) from the Republic of Korea, to overcome the challenges of operating in Bangladesh's less developed economy. The study focuses on Youngone's success in establishing itself as one of the largest exporters in the country by addressing three key deficiencies, known as the "Triple Voids": deficiencies in organizational capabilities, production and social infrastructure, and market-supporting institutions.
Capabilities Voids: Youngone transferred advanced production technologies and management methodologies from global partners like the UK to Bangladesh, filling gaps in local expertise. It adopted a localization strategy, recruiting highly educated local managers through programs like the Youngone Leadership Development Program, empowering them to lead operations independently.
Infrastructure Voids: Recognizing the inadequacies of Bangladesh's public infrastructure, Youngone utilized government export processing zones (EPZs) for production and supplemented them with self-built social infrastructure, including medical centers, labor counseling programs, and child daycare facilities.
Institutional Voids: To address governance and institutional challenges, Youngone created its own private EPZ (KEPZ), a self-regulating facility that offered greater institutional flexibility and autonomy than government-run zones. This allowed for better management and investment control.
Key strategies included global knowledge mobilization, localized human resource management, and proactive corporate social responsibility (CSR). The study concludes that the alignment of MNE and host country interests through such innovative approaches can yield significant mutual benefits, including enhanced economic growth and improved labor conditions. The case provides valuable insights for MNEs, policymakers, and further research.
