AI is transforming the human-machine relationship through everyday and game-changing AI, with generative AI driving massive disruption that offers opportunities and threats to organizations. As a CIO, you must define your AI ambition by using the AI Opportunity Radar to assess internal and external applications, such as back office productivity, front office efficiency, core capabilities reinvention, and new product creation. Consider investment scenarios: defend (focus on quick productivity gains with low risk), extend (invest in competitive applications), or upend (create new business models at high risk). To safely adopt AI, establish AI-ready security, make data ethically governed, secure, unbiased, enriched, and accurate, and define lighthouse principles to guide ethical use. By 2025, AI will be a workforce partner for most companies, but risks like unethical use and security threats must be mitigated. CIOs are expected to lead AI efforts, balancing innovation with responsible governance to avoid regulatory challenges.
